Wiltshire Council is awaiting the results of a new inspection of its previously criticised child protection services.

Four inspectors started analysing the service last Monday and were expected to conclude their study by the end of this week.

In March 2012, an Ofsted inspection found the overall effectiveness of safeguarding children and young people was inadequate. The council eventually suggested 41 possible improvements.

Council deputy leader John Thomson said: “We don’t get any indication of how it is going while the inspection is ongoing. We did not expect Ofsted back quite so early, but we’ve worked hard to address the problems.”

The inspectors’ findings are expected to be published in about six weeks’ time.
