Wiltshire councillors are to vote on whether to U-turn on their controversial decision to award themselves increased allowances.

The move will be debated at the full council meeting at County Hall, Trowbridge, on February 4.

In November, the council agreed increases which saw leader Jane Scott’s allowances rise by 36.5 per cent, with cabinet members getting at least 22 per cent more.

Under their constitution, at least 10 councillors’ signatures are needed on a motion calling for Wiltshire Council to debate a decision taken in the previous last six months and potentially overturn it.

Councillors Terry Chivers, Jeff Osborn, Helen Osborn, Ernie Clark, all Independent; John Walsh, Ricky Rogers, Ian Tomes, all Labour; Trevor Carbin, Ian West and Brian Dalton all Liberal Democrats, have signed the motion.

A 2,600-signature petition against the rises will be presented at the meeting.

This Meeting IS crucial and long overdue and.... NOT JUST to query the pay rise that Ms Scott and her Political Team gave themselves.

Please come to County Hall on the 4th February and support the Petition and the non Conservative Councillors who have finally come together and challenged Ms Scott and Co ?

This IS how Democracy should and can be allowed to work..

There IS is no more room at County Hall for Political Bullies.

People (and the REAL Staff) BEFORE Politics should be the new "motto" and possibly food for thought for a New Party for the next Elections ?

Public opinion finally wins and hopefully we will see justice in this matter. Even Eric Pickles a senior cabinet minister has agreed that Jane Scott has gone too far with her allowance rise. Surely this is an example of a poor decision by Jane Scott and her party, therefore she needs to resign because she is clearly unaware of Wiltshire residents situation. We are all feeling the austerity measures so should elected members too.

Come on Jane its time to move aside and look after the farm and spend time with the grandchildren! You have your OBE now!!

On today's BBC News for Wiltshire area:

Ms Scott defended the rise, to £52,000 a year, claiming an independent panel set the "wrong" level when Wiltshire became a unitary authority in 2009.

"At least I am honest, I voted for it and I'm taking it," she said.

"I'm taking it because my group voted for it, as did others from other parties.

"There was an independent group that made very strong evidence that it should be increased because they got it wrong when we went to a unitary, and went from 250 councillors to 98."

She said she was "taking no notice" of the petition, which was set up calling for her resignation after the increases were agreed.

That's our marvellous Council leader for you - after all she's the only one that matters really, sOd everyone else!

Ms Jane Scott OBE, Leader of the Council ought to be ashamed of herself. She's becoming an embarrassment to Wiltshire Council, to the Conservative Party (not easy to do!), and ultimately to herself as her ego and self-importance have overtaken the job she is there to do.

On 12 th November the Leader of Wiltshire Council and most of the Tory Group made a bad choice, especially in light ofthe hard times many ordinary Wiltshire folk are facing. Since then it has haunted them. Eric Pickles is only the latest Tory national figure to tell her to wise up and forego the massive increases. He knows and understand the likely fallout. But no, she remains as defiant as ever.

On 4th February she has a chance to see sense and think of others, even her own party.

If she carries on in her own blinkered way, Wiltshire people will never forgive her and the county Tory party will be the losers.

It is surely questionable on Health and Safety grounds if Ms Scott should be allowed to continue taking on self elected Roles within the Council ?...
Expecting the Staff she has left to pick up the workload because of her excessive spending and cuts, is not fair and... is putting them at Risk too....
Retiring has surely to be the most respectable and ONLY "option" for Ms Scott now ?..
Please, everyone, come to the Meeting at County Hall on 4th February at 10.30 am ?......
It would be really great for Ms Scott to actually SEE some of the People who she says "matters"....it would be even better that she takes time to LISTEN to them.......
