Trowbridge Town Council hopes to hold a civic reception for Trowbridge Rugby Club to mark their cup win.

Leader Bob Brice said mayor David Halik is keen to hold a reception for the players but discussions are only at the earliest stages.

The council’s policy and resources committee congratulated the club on winning the cup at a meeting on Tuesday. Cllr Brice said it is unlikely anything will be decided before the council’s annual meeting on May 20, where a new mayor and deputy is elected.

Rainbow Launderette owner Andrew Lanham-Cook said: “I think it would be really great for them to have an open bus tour. Nothing much goes on in Trowbridge that is positive, so we should make the most of it and really celebrate.”

Club member Bruce Leworthy said: “It’s the greatest day in the club’s history and it would be a fabulous event.

"It would be great for those who couldn’t make it to Twickenham to come out and show their support for the team.”
