Road users will enjoy a smoother journey on the A36, which runs from the M27 motorway to Salisbury, once resurfacing work taking place between the Ower roundabout and the A27 is complete.
The work, on an eight-mile section of the road, will start on the evening of Tuesday, May 27, and continue for seven weeks.
All work will take place between 8pm and 6am. No work will take place on Saturday and Sunday nights.
To ensure the safety of both road users and roadworkers, it will be necessary to close the road to through traffic at certain times during the scheme and a fully signed diversion route will be in place, says the Highways Agency.
Drivers wanting to travel south on the A36 will be diverted on to the A27 at the Brickworth Road Junction to follow the A27 southbound to the junction with the A3090 where they will be diverted westbound to the Ower roundabout where they can region the A36.
Traffic wishing to travel north will follow the above route in reverse.
