The town council will recognise the achievements of Trowbridge Rugby Club at the Sport and Play Festival tomorrow (Saturday), before holding a more formal event later in the year.

A representative from the club will attend the festival following the team’s memorable victory in the RFU Intermediate Cup final at Twickenham in May, which followed their promotion to South West level.

The annual Sport and Play Festival, organised by Active Trowbridge, will take place in Trowbridge Park between 11am-4pm and will include an appearance from Paralympic swimmer Stephanie Millward.

Town council clerk Lance Allan said: “There will be a representative from the rugby club at the festival on Saturday to receive thanks from the town council.

“We weren’t able to do something more formal as many of the players are attending a wedding that day, so we are looking at doing something later in the year.”

Another team to be recognised by its town council is Melksham Town Football Club, whose Wiltshire Senior Cup win in April will be marked by the town council on July 17 at the town hall.
