Halfords in Trowbridge has supported the town’s Neighbourhood Policing Team in a bid to carry out more of its patrols on two wheels by giving them two bikes.

Cycling enthusiast Insp Chris Chammings set his policing teams the challenge of covering more miles on bicycles than they do in cars in May.

The NPT teams clocked up 2,061 miles on bikes compared to 1,459 miles in a car, and now the Trowbridge sector is being used as a six-month pilot. With Halfords’ two Carrera Crossfire Hy-brids , the NPT teams now have ten bikes.

Insp Chammings said: “It’s amazing the support we have had from Halfords and I’m very grateful to them for helping us out. The public like being able to see us out on the streets and it is also cheaper and more environmentally friendly.”
