Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Trowbridge.

The incident took place at about 4am on Sunday near Conigre Square, Trowbridge.

A 23-year-old male remains in hospital with serious injuries following the attack.

Chris Chammings, Sector Inspector for Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon, said: "Although this is an isolated incident, we are treating it extremely seriously.

"A male was violently attacked and left requiring hospital treatment.

"I am specifically appealing to the local Polish community to come forward with any information they may have to help us with our investigation.

"I'd also like to hear from anyone who was in or near Trowbridge town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning who saw either any arguments between groups of people or anyone with blood on their clothing who was near to the Sainsbury's on British Row.

"I want to reassure the public that incidents such as this are rare and we are working extremely hard to bring the person/s responsible to justice."
