Westbury Fire Station has an open day to encourage new retained firefighters and show what they do.

From Saturday between 10am and 4pm at the station in Meadow Lane the event will be geared towards attracting people to join Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service as on-call firefighters.

Crew manager Martin Waker said: “On-call firefighters make themselves available to respond to emergencies and, in Westbury, we really need more people who can give cover during the working day.

“If you live or work within about five minutes of the fire station, and you’d like to get involved, then come and see us.”

The event will have a variety of attractions to suit all ages including demonstrations, stalls and a barbecue.

Visitors will also have the chance to see inside a fire engine and try out some of the kit used by firefighters.
