ST LAURENCE School showed its sweet side by whipping up some treats to raise money for the Bath RUH Forever Friends Appeal.

Part of Big Ted’s Bake Off, pupils at the school in Bradford on Avon hosted a cake sale on October 19 to raise money for the annual fundraising week for the hospital charity. Sixth form pupil Maddy Jones, who is the head of fundraising on the school council, led the initiative at the school and organised the bake sales and a visit from Big Ted himself.

After taking a working placement with her fellow Year 13 pupil Ellen Walker, Maddy knew which cause would be receiving the donations.

Maddy said: “I chose the Forever Friends Appeal because it is a cause that is very close to all of our hearts as it is such an important charity. Ellen and I both undertook work experience placements at the appeal and found it and the people who work there so inspirational.”

The successful bake sale saw Maddy and her fellow Year 13 pupils raised £120 for the appeal from their cake sale alone. The fundraising team also supported Dorothy House Hospice by hosting a school cinema which raised just under £150.

“We wanted to contribute in some way to their hard work and support the charity. We hope to build up a fundraising relationship to continue to contribute and to help make a difference to the lives of patients and their families cared for by the RUH,” added Maddy.

“We aimed to raise over a hundred pounds and we want to split this between fundraising for a new cancer ward and also money towards improving the neonatal intensive care ward.”
