HOURS of heavy rainfall have flooded roads across Wiltshire causing lengthy delays and road closures.

Officers in Corsham have been working with the Ministry of Defence and Wiltshire Council to counteract the flooding in the area with the A4 near Budgens Esso Garage in Box one of the worst affected.

Skynet Drive and Tawny Close have also been reported to police as flooded while care is urged for drivers in Neston.

Two people were helped from a vehicle trapped in flood water on the B3109 at South Wraxall by firefighters.

Crews from Melksham and Corsham along with water rescue teams from Chippenham and Trowbridge went to the scene.

PCSO Shaun Redmond said: "There are multiple areas in Corsham that have flooded and we are doing the best we can to help.

"The A4 near Box is passable with extreme care but parts of Neston are swamped. We have put signage and cones out and we have also asked schools to issue a letter to parents."

Since speaking to PSCO Redmond, The Corsham School have asked parents picking their children up by car to allow extra time for their journey if the rain continues to fall.

Andy Dyer, of Winsley Road in Bradford on Avon, had to find his way round Church Street due to flooding, said: "I live in Winsley Road. That's the only problem street in town, I had to divert to get to Lloyds ATM- the river is rising quite fast though."

One side of Sherston Road in Malmesbury is currently under water between the roundabout at Corn Gastons Road and junction of Bremilham Road. Police have placed signs to warn motorists of the risk in the dark.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service said: "Please stay safe and do not attempt to drive through flood water."
