WITH six sides currently involved in the Division Three relegation dogfight, FC North Wiltshire boosted their hopes of staying in the division after they struck two late goals at Trowbridge Town Supporters Club to claim a 4-3 victory and move out of the drop zone for the first time since last October.

North Wilts led through a James Bamford goal and when the same player put them two up, the visitors to Bratton looked to be in control of things.

However Trowbridge fought back and were to turn the game on its head in the second period after Dave Strickland and got them back in the game with a goal before half time.

After the break Sean O’Brien restored parity for Trowbridge and Dean Coles put them 3-2 up and on course for their first win in six games.

With five minutes left a mistake in the Trowbridge defence let in Dan Gilbert who fired North Wilts back on level terms and with time running out another costly error was to prove decisive as Dan Gilbert again profited from poor defending to grab the winner and may yet prove to be the goal that keeps his team up for another season.

Worton & Cheverell 2 Christian Malford 3

WORTON & Cheverell may have beaten Christian Malford 4-2 at thebeginning of season and were clearly looking to complete the double as they dealt much better with a strong wind which blew both across and into their faces.

Malford were all over the place at the beginning. They had however had to shuffle their back line as they had lost four players to a plethora of stag parties, birth of babies or the Grand National and were clearly struggling. Malford keeper Matt Hutchings came to their rescue on several occasions.

Eventually Worton broke the deadlock halfway through the half when Declan Blanford who had scored two in the first game reacted quickest to a corner on the right to fire in a low shot to give Worton a deserved 1-0 lead. Despite more pressure the Malford defence held out until half time.

Malford manager Grant Christie gave the players a lively pep talk reminding them they were defending a ten-match unbeaten run, the best in Malford's recent history and he wanted it extended.

The pep talk worked as within ten minutes Malford had scored twice first from Paul Knight and then from Robert Lowe both volleying loose balls in the six yard box to put Malford 2-1 up.

After 70 minutes keeper Matt Hutchings long kick into the wind was chased by David Brown who beat the keeper to the ball to slot home Malford's third. Malford were clearly on top and enjoying most of the possession.

Worton keeper Tom North then had to leave the field after his foot was accidentally stepped on by a Malford striker opening an old wound.

Worton were handed a lifeline in the 82nd minute when a clumsy challenge was punished with a penalty.

Declan Blanford stepped up and made no mistake scoring his second for Worton and reducing Malford's lead to the single goal.

Malford had to endure a few minutes of pressure but by the end were on top again as they held out to claim a 3-2 win.

Wren FC 3 North Star B 4

CALNE rivals Wren FC and North Star B were involved in a seven-goal thriller which saw the latter come from three down to claim a remarkable 4-3 victory that leaves Wren needing to beat Worton & Cheverell to have any chance of keeping their third division status for a second season.

Goals from Martin Gould, Matt Fenn and Carl Golding put Wren 3-0 up inside the opening 15 minutes and at that stage their was only one team in the game, but slowly North Star regained their composure and were able to get back into the contest.

Karl Sharratt reduced the arrears for the Star and a second from Sharratt narrowed the gap to the odd goal.

The second half was a complete reversal to that from the start of the first and it was North Star who now had their tails up and shortly after the restart Jay Watkins had got them back on level terms and another quickfire goal from Adam Walsh was too prove to be the winner in a game that will leave Wren wondering where it all went wrong.
