COMMONWEALTH Games-bound Danny Talbot may be fresh from clocking a new personal best in his favoured event but the Trowbridge Tornado reckons that he is still yet to produce his top form.

The 23-year-old blazed to the top of the British 200m rankings as he ran 20.36 seconds at the Josef Odložil Memorial in Prague last week but London 2012 Olympian is encouraged by the belief that he can cross the line even faster.

Talbot set a new 100m best of 10.14 in Bedford late last month and that performance contributed to him being selected to represent Great Britain in the 100m dash at the European Team Championships in Braunschweig, Germany this weekend.

Talbot also mixed it with some of the world’s top stars at last week’s Diamond League meeting in Oslo, finishing eighth in the 200m, the event in which he will run for England in Glasgow next month.

“I’d been racing well in America, and when I came back and went to Bedford, so I wanted to go to Prague and execute a good race,” said Talbot.

“My 200 performances hadn’t been as good as I’d wanted, but I’d felt like I had a good time in me – I was really, really happy to get a new PB.

“It’s the fastest time in the country so far, but I know that it wasn’t perfect and that I made a few mistakes, so to get a PB and know that I’ve got more in me is really encouraging.

“You want to be peaking at big competitions, like the Commonwealth Games or the European Championships, so hopefully that will happen.”

Talbot added: “I was on the coach when my agent rang me and asked if I wanted to compete in the Diamond League in Oslo and I said yes straight away.

“It’s the first time that I’d done the 100m at a Diamond League and it’s something you can’t turn down. It was a great opportunity to race with people like Kim Collins, Richard Thompson and (Adam) Gemili.

“I knew that I wouldn’t perform at my best because I was knackered from running a PB two days before but it was still a good experience.

“With everything else going on, I actually forgot that the European Team Championships were happening, which is mad because it’s a big competition.

“My coach (Dan Cossins) texted me to let me know that I’d been selected to run the 100 for Great Britain and that was great news for me.

“At the moment, I’m looking to be on form for the trials for the Europeans (the British Championships in Birmingham on June 27-29).”
