CRICKET: Wiltshire’s perfect ten

COUNTY captain Mike Coles is certain that Wiltshire won’t allow overconfidence to creep in and derail their faultless season so far.

Fresh from recording their tenth successive victory of the season with a nine-wicket triumph over Berkshire in the Unicorns Championship this week, Wiltshire are facing up to two vital games in the next two weeks.

This Sunday, the county travel to Bicester to take on Oxfordshire in the semi- finals of the Unicorns Trophy before turning their attentions to a top-of-the-table Championship clash with Devon at Devizes.

“Obviously, we’re looking forward to the next two games and the boys’ confidence is absolutely sky-high,” said Coles.

“We’ve already beaten Oxfordshire in the three-day competition but I think we realise that they may well be able to bring in a few players that weren’t available for the three-day games.

“The Devon game will also be a really important game for us because if they beat us, and the bonus points go their way, they could go to the top of the table.

“We’ll have to make sure that we’re at our best for both of them.

“Myself and Neil Shardlow’s job has been to keep everyone grounded and, even though we just keep winning games, I don’t think anyone is letting themselves get carried away.

“Nobody’s starting thinking too much about reaching a final or anything like that.

“We’ve been focussing on performing hour by hour in every game and there’s no reason why we can’t keep doing that.”
