Stonar School

FOCUS ON EDUCATION: Stonar is an independent day and boarding school, set in 80 acres of fields, parkland and gardens, close to the beautiful city of Bath, in the village of Atworth, near Melksham.

Here, away from the noise and pollution of city life, there is calm and quietness, safety, security, clean air and healthy living. There are over 400 pupils at Stonar aged from two-18, starting with ABaCus Nursery right the way up to the Sixth Form. About half of the pupils are boarders, including a number from overseas. Day girls come in from a wide catchment area within a radius of about 20 miles.

At Stonar, every girl is challenged, whatever her ability, to fulfil her potential. There are unrivalled opportunities to excel in academic, artistic, sporting and cultural fields. The school maintains a strong academic focus. Yet again, this year Stonar School has demonstrated outstanding examination successes, with 44.3 per cent of GCSE passes at A* and A-level.

Stonar offers a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum, including a wide range of sports and games. There is a heated, indoor swimming pool, astro-turf and sports hall, dedicated music school and theatre and a equestrian centre which gives pupils the chance to ride, whatever their level of expertise. Keen riders have the chance to stable their own horse here, should they wish.

At Stonar, each girl is encouraged to broaden skills and experiences and to try new activities. In this way, self-confidence and self-esteem grow steadily. From nursery through the primary stages of education and on to the Senior School and Sixth Form, pupils are nurtured and encouraged to be adventurous, to take risks, and give their best at all times. Every child matters at Stonar and individual attention is an integral part of the school's daily practice. We recognise that each child is different, learns in different ways and has different needs. Classes are small enough to meet those needs with highly skilled and qualified staff. The expectations of staff and pupils are consistently high. Quality is a priority.

In addition to the buzz of a rich and varied curriculum, Stonar prides itself on the quality of its pastoral care.

At Stonar, the aim is to develop the whole child and to nurture each one towards becoming a well-rounded, caring and compassionate person who is responsible and hard-working.

Stonar is a very special school with a unique atmosphere which is purposeful and dynamic yet exudes a warmth which is palpable throughout.
