EXTRA police patrols have been introduced in Westbury in a bid to find a sex attacker who struck on Sunday.

A woman was attacked in her own bed at a house in Bitham Mill at about 5am on Sunday and police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen anyone, or any vehicle, in the area at the time.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Mark Power, who is leading the investigation, said: "We would like to reassure residents of Westbury and the surrounding area that we have a large team of officers working on this case who are conducting a careful and thorough investigation.

"We are being assisted by officers from the county's major investigation team and are following several lines of enquiry, including the forensic examination of items from the scene.

"Wiltshire is one of the safest counties in the country to live in and I would like to stress that this incident is an extremely rare type of crime.

"We have introduced extra police patrols into the Westbury area and we are doing everything possible to find the person responsible for this offence and ensure that he cannot commit further crimes."

Anyone who has any information which could help with this investigation is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000, or to leave information anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
