Gig Guide
Phonic Flux
With many local bands going the DIY route to record their first EP, a website dedicated to helping Chippenham bands is the first stop for newbie musicians looking for support.
Simon Crancher created and launched www.phonicflux.com after being inspired by the Chippenham music scene.
Simon, aka cRuNcHiE, said: "Chippenham seems to be a very musical town, all my friends are passionate about music and it appears to a be a common trend among people here, so I wanted to start some kind of online community for the music scene.
"I started out by thinking what I personally might find useful to be on the site such as band profiles, gig listings and a forum to communicate with others. One of my aims was for the people of Chippenham and the surrounding area to be able to contribute to the site, e.g. submit gig dates etc.
"Then I thought about what I could do to help bands get heard and promoted, so along came the FLUX radio, for playing their music. This also lets bands upload their music themselves, so that everyone can listen to it.
"I also thought I could draw from my experience of completing an HND in Sound Engineering so I added a lot of information on recording techniques, which I hoped would prove useful to bands, as many of them record their own albums nowadays.
"I hope to expand content to include listings of teachers in the area, along with venues for bands to play at, so that it can become much more of a useful resource for the local music scene.
"Since producing the site I have helped several bands record their own mini EPs and I also help run the Open Mic Night at The Old Road Tavern, as well as record it to put online."
