Old Bear bands

The Old Bear, Staverton is host to a Mobsta Promotions night on Saturday June 7, featuring Trowbridge-based rock band Modela and new young Melksham rapper MC Liveo, plus a third band to be confirmed.

Tickets are £3 in advance from Mobsta (01225) 705866 or The Old Bear, or £4 on the door. Doors open 7.30 and music starts at 8pm. At the last event in April Switchback and Geisha House were among the bands that performed.

MC Liveo aka 17 yr old Simon Partington is a Melksham-based rapper. He uses sampled backing tracks of the likes of Dr. Dre and Ludacris, to which he adds his own extra instrumentation and original lyrics, often centred around the difficulty being seen is different' within a culture that likes to stereotype.

He is currently starting to compose his own complete tracks and has just begun to perform outside of the school environment.

Switchback are a new young (16/17 years old) band based in Melksham. They are all students at George Ward School and have developed over the last 18 months from novice performers to competent musicians, and are now beginning to feature regularly on the local pub circuit, often as support to Geisha House.

Their set contains a mix of covers and original material, mainly influenced by the likes of The Hives, Status Quo, and Blink 182. Switchback are Nick Suter (guitar), Tariq Burhanuddin (bass), Rich Lavery (guitar), Steph Parkin (vocals) and Dave Sanders (drums).

Geisha House (formerly known as The House Band) is a Melksham-based pop/rock band consisting of a group of musicians of varying ages and tastes, which produces a wide-ranging mix of covers and original material.

The band is available for pub gigs, private parties, weddings and all special occasions, varying the set to suit the event and adding in special favourites on request.

The band are: Joe Hillman vocals/guitars and main songwriter. Joe has been in bands from the age of 14, when he was vocalist with George Ward band Priestess. Chris Allen drums. Chris was also a student at George Ward school and has been in several local , mostly indie/metal, bands. Kelly Woolford vocals, keys. Baby of the band and talented volleyball player, this 16 year old student has already released a debut album of original material, has a publishing contract, and is now working on her second album with Mel. Olli Gee keys, guitar. Also a talented footballer, Olli has a background in music technology and has supported local productions with sound and lighting. Mel Austin bass, guitar, b/vocals. Ex-George Ward deputy head, Mel now runs a small local studio (Melodious Music) working mostly with local bands and songwriters.

The band also invite guest musicians to join them on some numbers. These have included all-rounder Rob Spooner, young guitarist Rich Lavery and young vocalist Jade Harris.
