Forget rugby, see live bands!

10:06am Thursday 18th October 2007

NOT a rugby fan? Head out on Saturday night - or Friday night, or any night this week - and you'll find some great live music in west and north Wiltshire.

On Saturday the Friends and Supporters of West Wiltshire branch of Amnesty International are holding an Acoustic Amnesty benefit at the Village Pump Barn at The Lamb in Trowbridge.

The evening, hosted by Jim Lynch of The George at Woolley, features a great line-up of original acoustic singer-songwriters, kicking off with Mike Scott, followed by Australian songsmith Pete Arrowsmith, Chris Hibberd and Ruth Behan, of Billy and The Longround. Headline act is Benjamin and The Sirens, an incredible Bath/Birmingham troupe led by Ben Mortimer. Tickets £5 at the door, 8pm.

YOUNG Corsham band Corinthian Casuals, pictured, return to their home town for an extra special set at Corsham Community Centre on Saturday.

This one promises to be a belter, with the usual mix of killer classics and fresh hits, plus a few songs you never knew and even a few surprises along the way. £3, bar available.

HAD a great night out on Saturday at the Mount Pleasant Club in Bradford on Avon, where Carnaby Street gave their usual superb performance.

If you haven't heard this band, whose original 60s Who and Small Faces set first expanded to include Mod revival and Jam numbers, you've missed a treat. Since I last saw them lead singer Tim has added to his repertoire of New Wave hits: some of the audience looked a little surprised at God Save the Queen but were happier with Ever Fallen in Love with Someone.

It was never mind the size of the dance floor feel the energy - and England trouncing France added some unusual lyrical additions.

They finished the set with a late second encore - thanks Cath and Roger for Will You, one of my favourites, especially as they had to drop most of Roger's sax numbers as he couldn't play due to a mouth ulcer.

A really fun evening at this smashing little club, where you're assured of a friendly welcome and good bar prices. Brad Stevens, one of the most popular vocalist/guitarists around, plays there next with his spread of great pop from the 60s to the 90s, on October 27 at 9pm. Tickets £3.50 from (01225) 867888.
