West Wiltshire supporters travelling over to Frome tomorrow night for the final of the Somerset Standard Battle of the Bands competition will be rooting for Trowbridge band Casino Drive.
The rock outfit, who are made up of Dave Thomas, 26, James L’Steve, 26, James Rose, 26, Sam Robson, 27, and Steve Evans, 23, qualified for the final, which is at the Cheese and Grain in Frome, at the first heat held at Frome Football Club in June.
Guitarist and singer James Rose told the Wiltshire Times: “The heat was really well attended which is testament to the promoters.
“Winning isn’t everything, we just saw a great opportunity to perform in front of a lot of people and grabbed it.
“We’re really looking forward to it because the Cheese and Grain is a great venue especially when it’s packed out.”
The competition, which has been running for five years, is organised by Dan Biggane. He said: “I’m hoping the competition element is forgotten about on the night because really it’s about the music, it’s a great excuse to put on a good show.
“There will be five local bands and there’s really something for everyone from punk to classic rock.
“Last year’s winner, All Guns Blazing, will be coming back to play again.
“Since they won the title last year they have been signed by Rising Records and have recorded their debut album, so they’ll be playing some tracks off that on the night.
“The hardest part for the judges will be at the end of the night when they have to make their decision. There will also be an opportunity for the crowd to vote for their favourite band.”
The full line-up for tomorrow’s gig, which starts at 7pm, is Casino Drive, Counting Days, Doctor Nut, Here on Out, Johny's Day Out and All Guns Blazing.
Tickets are £5 on the door. For more information visit www.cheeseandgrain.co.uk.
