BLUES in the Barn is a not-for-profit music festival being held this summer just outside Calne, with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event on Saturday August 9 will feature an evening of high voltage blues with the very best British artistes: already signed up are The Blues Band, featuring the legendary Paul Jones; the Eddie Martin Band and the Oli Brown Band.

Local flavour will come from No Mean Feat, Just Jim and Hiproute.

The event will take place in a barn, deep in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, with all the flavour of an outside festival - with the protection of a roof!

As well as fine music there will be a real ale bar and an onsite Indian restaurant, The Ratford Spice of Bengal. Tickets are £25 and are available now from (01249) 665970 or at local tourist offices. Further details at www.bluesinthebarn.co.uk

THE first of a new series of events entitled Underground Live, bringing cutting edge electro sounds to a club-night format, comes to Bath University on Saturday February 9.

Promoted by ICIA, the series is launched by the Bristol-based supagroup I Am The Mighty Jungulator, renowned for their genre-splicing audiovisual spectaculars.

Vexkiddy also head the line-up with guest DJs and VJs. I Am The Mighty Jungulator is a live band and multi-media collective, renowned for working across the audio/visual/performance spectrum.

With a core of four people, and another three or four when they go live, IATMJ combine a range of music influences, steering the music in any number of directions.

They transform live and sampled sounds into a heady and intoxicating live performance, with unique visuals. The night includes guest legendary Bristol dance-music act, Vexkiddy, a melting pot of cutting edge breaks, hardcore beats and classic 90s rave soundscapes presented in an engaging cabaret style.

Plenty of modern DJs and electronic musicians use laptops and synths live but lack a visual element - Vexkiddy's answer to this is to dress up as Victorian time travellers.

Performing in a semi-live environment with the ability to move and interact with the crowd, as well as perform musically, they perform as the duo Cuthbert & Strangeways.

The show includes big screen projections, various other characters that are introduced along the way, as well as inflatables and a number narrative-driven props.

Underground Live aims to be an alternative to the mainstream club nights, offering live music and stage visuals with a difference bringing the best of Bristol's live indie electro-scene to Bath. Tickets are £7, concs £5, from the box office on (01225) 386777.

THE 2008 season of Mark Green Entertainment events at the Mount Pleasant Club in Bradford on Avon kicks off on Saturday February 9 with Jingle's Disco, a family party night with sounds to appeal to all age groups from the 60s to today.
