Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart have revealed there was no competition between them on the set of their latest film.

The comic duo team up for the first time on the big screen in Etan Cohen’s comedy Get Hard, in which Will plays a businessman wrongfully convicted of tax evasion and Kevin is a car washer.

The pair said they worked together, without any rivalry or competition.

“I think it’s easy for Kevin and I because we appreciate the ensemble. As much as we enjoy making people laugh, we live to laugh ourselves and the first time we met, the goal was to make the other guy laugh,” Will said of their partnership.

“It was literally like, ‘That’s going to make a great scene’, not who was the straight man.”

Kevin added: “I think your star has to set the tone and Will did that. We set each other up, that’s what’s important.”

Kevin revealed he has taken some tips from his co-star.

“I like to see a person taking his craft seriously. For a guy that’s coming up I love to see it, I soak it up, I’m a sponge,” he said.

“I don’t want to think I’m the only one over here trying to bust my ass trying to get to a place. I wanna see the guys that have got to that place that are still doing it.”

The pair, who pay homage to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor in the buddy movies, deny they are trying to emulate their success.

Kevin explained: “You can’t do what those guys have done over again. Just make a great movie for our generation and hopefully people watch it and think that’s a great pairing for this time, this decade.

“You don’t go into something thinking it’s time for us to take over, be the next duo. Both of us have an audience and a fan base and this time they get to come together.”

The duo have also recently appeared on The Late Late Show, hosted by James Corden, where Will performed the Star Trek theme tune, complete with haunting notes.

Get Hard is in cinemas now.
