Holt Dramatic Society presents a traditional tale for Christmas next month, with an adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic by Dee Hughes, directed by John Fletcher.

The society’s next major production will be presented from Thursday, January 16 to Saturday, January 18 2014 in Holt Village Hall.

With a cast of more than 20 this traditional, costumed adaptation of the much loved Dickens’ tale is one not to be missed. The tale begins on a ‘cold, bleak, biting" Christmas Eve, exactly seven years after the death of Ebenezer Scrooge's business partner Jacob Marley.

Mr Scrooge hates Christmas, calling it ‘humbug,’ and rudely turns down anything associated with it.

Returning home that evening, Scrooge is visited by Marley’s ghost.

Marley warns Scrooge to change his ways lest he undergo the same miserable afterlife as himself. Scrooge is then visited by three additional ghosts who accompany him to various scenes with the hope of achieving his transformation.

After several ‘visits’ through scenes of his past, present and future life and death, Scrooge awakens on Christmas morning with joy and love within his heart.

He has become a different man overnight, much to the amazement of his employees and acquaintances, and now treats his fellow men with kindness, generosity and compassion, gaining a reputation as a man who embodies the spirit of Christmas.

The story closes with the narrator confirming the validity, completeness, and permanence of Scrooge’s transformation.

Tickets for the 7.30pm production are on sale now in Holt Superstore or online at www.holtdrama.org.uk
