Organissers of the first Deverills Festival have confirmed that they plan to do it again, after the four-day celebration of the performing arts held over the May bank holiday weekend was a great success.

The event, which took place in Deverill Valley, near Warminster, from May 2-5, included everything from classical and jazz to folk and world music, drama, comedy, story telling and street theatre.

There were more than 20 events held across seven venues during the festival, which was supported by Arts Council England, Wiltshire Council, Wessex Water and several other organisations and individuals.

The line-up included music from artists such as Carducci Quartet, Guy Johnston and friends, Bath Philharmonia, Spectra Musica, Nick Sorensen Trio and Threepenny Bit.

Festival director Richard Munro commented: “What can I say? We set out to celebrate the performing arts and to offer professional quality music and drama to as many people as possible in a delightful environment at affordable prices and we did.

“We are thrilled that the many festivalgoers were captivated by the variety of events and exceptional performances in unique rural venues, in such a beautiful setting. Will we do it again? Definitely.

“Audiences, both local and from further afield, thoroughly enjoyed the performances and festive atmosphere.

“And all the villages pulled together in a great show of community spirit to put the weekend on the festival map.”
