A 10-year-old ballerina from Sutton Benger has triumphed at an international dance competition.

Tara Morris was one of 23 finalists under 18 from the UK, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg who made it through to the final of the Genée Dance Challenge in Belgium.

Tara, who goes to Sutton Benger Primary School, watches Strictly Come Dancing every weekend without fail and was very excited to be judged by celebrity judge Darcey Bussell, who is the president of the Royal Academy of Dance.

Her parents Helen and Adam went to watch her winning performance in Antwerp on September 14.

Mr Morris, 46, who is managing director of Avagio in Chippenham, said: “We are so proud of her.

“She is modest but this is an amazing achievement as the Genée competition is often thought of as the Olympics of ballet.”

Tara wants to become a professional dancer and will be auditioning for the The Royal Ballet in the spring.

“There are only 12 places and about 1,000 girls apply, so it is incredibly competitive,” said Mr Morris.

She trains at FitzGraham Academy in Chippenham.

Rebecca Petty-Fitzmaurice, Tara’s teacher for nearly five years, said: “Tara is absolutely at the top of her game, probably one of the best her age in the country. We are lucky to have her.”
