Warminster's very own radio station has seen one of its shows win a top national award, after WCR Community Radio’s Christmas production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol was listed as one of the top three finalists at the Jerusalem awards from BAFTA in London.

The awards, which celebrate programmes with a Christian message, were open to radio and TV producers throughout the country and attracted 160 entries from professional stations such as the BBC, other world services and independents.

Having made the top six, WCR producers Barry Mole and Andrew Robinson were invited to the awards to hear the winner: not expecting to get any further against the professional competition they were delighted to be in the top three, beating BBC Radio 2.

The production of A Christmas Carol will be getting another airing this Christmas in celebration. The eventual winners were TV documentary company CTVC. The judges said that WCR’s production was both fun and very creative. Co-producer Andrew Robinson was also voted one of the top eight under-25 contributors.

Writer and producer Barry Mole commented: “It was surreal. There we were, a little band of radio enthusiasts from Warminster, rubbing shoulders with worldwide producers from radio and TV.

“Getting in the top six was great but being judged by a team of top media experts to be worthy of a finalist’s position was quite an accolade and WCR now has a national reputation.”
