An exhibition of prizewinning drawings is now on show in Trowbridge, the only chance to see it outside London.

Trowbridge Arts plays host to the Derwent Art Prize exhibition at Trowbridge Town Hall until November 22, with one of the judges and a Dean at Bath Spa University, Professor Anita Taylor, giving a talk about the exhibition and the art of pencil drawing, on Wednesday.

The Derwent Art Prize celebrates and rewards the very best creative art produced by the pencil and attracts submissions from across the world. There are nearly 70 pictures of all sizes being exhibited.

Prof Taylor, a practising artist, explains: “The Derwent Art Prize provides an exciting new global platform to understand, demonstrate and celebrate the capacities of contemporary drawing practices specifically explored through the means of a pencil – whether this be graphite, charcoal, carbon, coloured wax, pastel or watercolour.”

The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday 10-4pm and is free to enter. The talk will take place at 11.30am on Wednesday and is also free but please book a seat by emailing trowarts@gmail. com
