The Bradfordians Dramatic Society comes home to the beautifully restored St Margaret’s Hall this month, when after a 26-year gap they are delighted to be back in the centre of Bradford on Avon to put on Alan Ayckbourn’s A Chorus Of Disapproval.

The riotous comedy, whose plot follows an amateur dramatic society’s production of The Beggars Opera, has moments of high drama and comedy along with pathos and real poignancy.

Director Simon Blacksell says the new venue is perfect for the play as it works best with the audience close to the action and the new facilities are tailor-made for drama.

“The cast are excited and humbled to be the first company to put on a production in the new St Margaret’s Hall and feel sure that the audience will have a fabulous night out,” he added. “Those who have followed The Bradfordians in their various venues will be delighted that they have a permanent residence in the centre of town.”

Voted Best New Comedy when it was written in 1984, the play centres on a diffident widower who joins the local dramatic and light operatic society. Due to his inability to say ‘No’ to anybody, he finds himself advancing from a walk-on part to playing the lead in their latest production. He soon learns that life offstage is more challenging than life onstage as he gets embroiled in a dodgy land deal, and increasingly complicated relationships with female cast members.

A Chorus of Disapproval runs from Wednesday, November 19-Saturday, November 22 at St Margaret’s Hall in Bradford on Avon. Tickets are available from the Wiltshire Music Centre box office in person, on 01225 860100, or online at www.wiltshiremusic.org.uk, at £12/£10.
