THE Wharf Theatre in Devizes have clinched a theatrical coup in booking actor John Challis, best known as Boycie from Only Fools and Horses, to perform his one-man show, Only Fools and Boycie.

It will be the only Wiltshire venue for Mr Challis’s autumn tour.

Having worked with some of the biggest names in show business, he'll be spilling the beans about Only Fools and Horses co-stars like Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst and friends and fellow performers like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Oliver Reed and George Best. He’ll recall tales from his time in Dr Who, Coronation Street and other TV classics.

Mr Challis will also meet fans after the show on Saturday, October 21. to sign autographs and pose for pictures, while signing copies of his autobiography, Being Boycie, and his novel, Reggie: A Stag at Bay.

Tickets, £16, will go on sale in the summer.

Mr Challis’s visit will come at the end of a busy 2017 for the canalside theatre. Deanna Capper’s production of The Heiress, based on a Henry James novel, is due to open the season on January 27.

Adapted by Ruth and Augustus Goetz, the show runs from January 27-February 4 at 7.30pm.

In the 1950's young Catherine Sloper lives with her father, Dr Austin Sloper, in Washington Square, a very fashionable district of Philadelphia.

Catherine is shy, unsophisticated and plain looking, and her father blames her for the death of her mother, who died giving birth to her.

When Morris Townsende courts her, Catherine believes him sincere, but her father believes he's after her inheritance. When the three confront each other it triggers a train of events that could lead to disaster.

Later in the spring the Wharf is home to Jack the Ripper – the Musical, directed by John Winterton, from March 10-18.

This will be followed by Neil Simon’s hilarious comedy of sexual indiscretion, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, which runs from April 28-May 6, directed by Lewis Cowen.

In June there will be visits from the students of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School with their production of Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood and The Invitation Theatre Company is mounting a blockbuster production of Into the Woods, a musical by Stephen Sondheim.
