NO-ONE is immune to the might of pantomime, not grumpy small boys, gloomy grandads dragged along on a family outing or doubting dads not sure their children are old enough for this yet' (grown-up code for have I got to sit through this?').
For real festive magic, join the audience at the Theatre Royal Bath, where a cast of panto veterans are introducing newcomers young and old to the genre and proving, yet again, that the old jokes are the best.
Top scorers with the audience this year: putting Wishee Washee through the mangle, the ghostly "It's Behind You" number and Tiddles, the dog that does.
Even the somewhat over-enthusiastic glowstick waving among the audience can't spoil the traditional atmosphere as Aladdin outwits his evil uncle Abanana (sorry Mr Mantle, the kids preferred that to Abanazer like it says in the programme), married the Princess Jasmin (yuck, soppy kissing) and lived happily ever after. "The funny bits were the best", they all said afterwards.
Panto maestro Chris Harris, as Widow Twankey, and his gang keep the action moving swiftly along, so that the show seems to whizz by and even really small people find it interesting.

Top newcomer this year, Emily Alexander as the down-to-earth Slave of the Ring: top scenestealer, Byron Mondahl as comical Policeman Pong. Well worth going out on a cold night for.
