Moscow City Ballet: The Nutcracker and Cinderella

MOSCOW City Ballet, accompanied by the Moscow Ballet Orchestra, makes a welcome return to the Theatre Royal Bath next week, with two of the best-loved ballets in the repertoire, Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker and Cinderella set to Prokofiev's emotive score.

The company returns by popular demand with an exquisite double-bill of ravishingly beautiful dance. Brimming with graceful artistry and breathtaking poise, Moscow City Ballet is renowned for the perfection of its dancers in the best traditions of the Russian school of classical ballet. The triumphant acclaim of the company's many international tours has long established its reputation as one of Russia's leading ballet companies and recent visits to Bath have been greeted with delight from packed audiences of ballet lovers and newcomers alike.

The Nutcracker is set to Tchaikovsky's rousing score, and features sumptuous sets and fabulous costumes which make this glorious production a visual feast of pure make-believe. Favourite characters include the Mouse King, the Nutcracker Prince and the Doll help to bring Drosselmeyer's strange and magical world to life for little Clara. The set pieces in the Kingdom of Flowers allow all the soloists the opportunity to display their considerable talents.

Cinderella, which tells the much-loved story of the put-upon Cinderella, her wicked stepmother, and scheming sisters, has all the ingredients of a perfect ballet; a dashing Prince, a Fairy Godmother, a lavish ballroom, plenty of comedy and, of course, a happy ending. Danced to Prokofiev's rich score, this traditional Russian version of the story shows off this outstanding company at their finest.

Moscow City Ballet will be visiting Bath during the half term holiday, and the Theatre Royal is actively encouraging a new generation of ballet-going youngsters by offering half price tickets for children for most of the performances of The Nutcracker and Cinderella.
