Monday, May 5 until Saturday, May 10, Theatre Royal, Bath.

EQUUS, Peter Shaffer's award-winning West End hit, plays the Theatre Royal Bath next week. Audiences will have the chance to experience this theatrical masterpiece with one of our greatest stage actors, Simon Callow as psychiatrist Martin Dysart and a star in the making, Alfie Allen as Alan Strang.

Psychiatrist Martin Dysart (Simon Callow) is brought the most challenging case of his career by magistrate Hesther Saloman (Linda Thorson).

Alan Strang (Alfie Allen) seems like a normal 17-year-old. His life is routine and his family loving. However, Alan's passion for horses and an encounter with a girl, stable-hand Jill (Laura O'Toole) has led him to behave in a most devastating way. Only Dysart seems able to grasp the answer to this psychological puzzle.

Simon Callow, one of the UK's best-loved actors, has starred in and directed many West End productions, and last performed in Bath in Present Laughter in April 2006. He made his film debut in Amadeus, and also starred in A Room with a View; Maurice; Four Weddings and a Funeral and Shakespeare in Love. His television credits include Doctor Who, in which he played Charles Dickens.

Alfie Allen, like sister Lily, is the latest rising star of the Allen family, having starred alongside Keira Knightley in the blockbuster film Atonement. His TV credits include Stephen Poliakoff's drama Joe's Palace in 2007, and played Nobby Clarke in the BBC mini-series Casualty 1907.

Linda Thorson reached iconic status for the character she created, Tara King in the cult TV series The Avengers. Most recently, she has played Rosemary Sinclair in Emmerdale.

Equus premiered at the National Theatre in 1973 and became a worldwide sensation. In 2007, the revival production starring Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radcliffe (both of Harry Potter fame), became one of the biggest hits ever seen in the West End.

Box Office (01225) 448844.
