RE “I’ll dig up your streets”, Wiltshire Times, November 25.
I would take this opportunity to thank you (reporter Robin Murray most sincerely for all your efforts thus far. And my extended thank you to your editor whom in my opinion showed excellent judgment by supporting you by giving you front page coverage...well done to both of you.. l would appreciate if you would give my regards to all at the Wiltshire Times in turn.
I’ve read your last week’s edition and found it to be a most informative newspaper, with all the ingredients of what l call ‘a damn good read’. It would be nice if we had a good weekly such as yours here in Northampton. I found your article to be totally fair and factual and even though I’m at the core of it all.
It held my inquisitory attention to the end. It came across as if l was learning this information for the first time..my compliments to you sir.
Although any action I intend to take is completely necessary in my view because of the gravity of the wrongdoing that has been brought to my door, I will be taking things forward with a heavy heart, and the hope we can achieve our goal without causing too much upset to the residents who are of course completely innocent of any misdemeanor whatsoever, in both areas we’ve worked in.
Indeed, from my own visits to the site I met some of them, and had to admire their hospitality and patience while such disruption evolved all round them.
So with those memories in my mind I will endeavour to spare them as much unnecessary stress as I possibly can.
However, I must take a firm stand on this, as I’ve previously mentioned to you – these guys just laughed at all legal letters and attempts to bring them to book, and had the audacity to tell me there wasn’t much I could do to retrieve my company’s money by any means.
So by the power of yourselves in the media and the good wishes of like-minded people I hope to get right to the bottom of this corruption and fraud ridden scenario that is ripe within the construction industry.
a) Non- payment of small companies.
b) The use of dud companies.
c) The financial companies unscrupulous methods with possible illegal activity.
d) The ridiculous amount of tax evasion involved.
e) The misuse of H&S on sites by leading companies when it suits them.
It goes on and on... I find it shameful that such a noble industry as construction is being exploited by the big guys for personal gain at all levels.
The new Chancellor has stated he intends to spend billions on infrastructure and road works over the immediate coming years. I suggest he looks long and hard at the companies the government intends to contract this work out to. Because I believe the problems within the industry can only be solved at this level. Theresa May has stated she would like to help those “who are just about managing”; it would a pretty big help if she would appoint a committee to take our industry apart and rebuild it into the decent business it should be, with new rules and regulations to eliminate the wrong doers within.
Once again, you all at the Times have my profound gratitude.
