THANKFULLY, at least for the time being, fracking in Wiltshire has been put on hold, giving our lovely countryside a reprieve, and safeguarding our drinking water from possible contamination.
But other areas have not been so lucky. In Somerset, the coastal belt from Weston-Super-Mare to Bridgewater is under threat from fracking, and in Dorset, the beautiful countryside around Swanage is at risk.
But whilst the overwhelming majority of people are opposed to fracking in their neighbourhood, over 50% say they would be happy to have a wind turbine within 2 miles of their home.
Britain is the windiest nation in Europe and wind energy is cheap, clean and sustainable. Community energy schemes are also a great way to support the local economy. It’s about time the Government stopped spending billions of our money on dirty and hazardous energy programmes and instead supported our communities, our nation, our planet and our future by encouraging the development of renewable community energy.
