Up and down the UK there are dozens and dozens of groups – more than a thousand in fact – reading local news on a regular basis, for visually-impaired persons.
Local newspapers such as the Wiltshire Times provide truly local news.
Here in Trowbridge, a team of around 20 put the week’s local news on to memory sticks – which can be listened to on a supplied player.
The selection from the Wiltshire Times lasts about an hour. Having been a reader for some 18 months, I know how much the listeners look forward to it.
If you know someone who might like to receive this free service or, indeed, you might like to consider joining the team as reader or duplicator, do please contact our secretary at 01225 762336. There is also a website http://www.trowbridgetalkingnews.org.
