WHAT a disgrace to read that the youth van URBIE has been gutted and used as a work van by Wiltshire Council.
The van cost £50,000 10 years ago and was fitted out with an awning a generator and DVD player, storage units and seating. The van also was converted to allow disabled access.
Having cut the youth workers from the budget they decided that the van was surplus to requirements for youth work. I wonder if some of the people who donated money for the project would consider what has been done is theft. Unsurprisingly the council does not know where the generator, which cost £800, the awning and the DVD player etc have gone.
This shows a callous disregard for the needs of Warminster. The idea that Wiltshire Council can pass over the running of services to their political friends on Warminster Town Council, without handing over a sensible budget is again shown up as ridiculous. The saddest part of this saga is that there was no consultation with the youth of the town. Councillors of a different generation can hardly talk on the behalf of youth. When will councillors realise that money spent on services like the youth service is an investment in the fabric of our town.
