The trust which manages The Clarendon Academy has become the first academy sponsor to give up all its state-funded schools, after concerns that the trust’s standards were unacceptably poor.
Now, we know that Clarendon is officially a ‘good’ school: the teachers and other staff work very hard for their students – but it will now be offered back to the Department for Education’s control before a new ‘sponsor’ is found for it.
The trust’s failure comes after the Government’s claim that forcing underperforming schools to join academy trusts would improve standards. The government seems hell-bent on throwing away money on mad schemes – like the £320 million to be wasted on selective free schools.
The Clarendon Academy should be returned to the people of Wiltshire and supported to provide the education all our young people deserve.
