Croydon North (House of Commons)

Mr Steve Reed MP (Labour)

MP Since - 2012 (by-election) Majority - 11,761 Born - 12/11/1963.
Education - N/a.

Previous Occupation - Academic and Professional Publishing. Lambeth Council Leader (2006-12).

Personal Overview - Held this seat for Labour at the November 2012 by-election caused by the death of Malcolm Wicks MP. He had a selection battle with London Assembly member Val Shawcross to become Labour's candidate, narrowly defeating her in a very close contest. He has leadership experience at Lambeth Council where he was responsible for generating its 'Cooperative Council' agenda (a network of Labour Councils that are implementing co-operative policies and ways of providing services, which give communities power and a real say over the ways they are run). Locally this has involved opening a new Library and a number of schools as well as building several Leisure Centres. He also has experience of regeneration/employment issues having led the 'Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea regeneration project' and has focussed on job creation within the Croydon area. He appears to be a strong candidate for future preferment to a shadow ministerial post.

Political History - Councillor, Lambeth Council (2000-2013), Council Leader (2006-12). Member for Croydon North (2012-). Member of the Public Administration Select Committee (2012-).
