Victim's plea after pub assault

A 56-YEAR-OLD man has urged witnesses to come forward after he was attacked in broad daylight in the centre of Trowbridge.

Brian Jones was leaving the Sir Isaac Pitman pub in Market Place between 3-4pm on March 7 when he was set-upon just outside the main door.

He was left with a broken jaw, he lost two teeth, and another two have to be removed. Since the attack he has been suffering severe headaches, which he says are causing him serious concern.

Mr Jones said he remembers very little about the incident and is asking for anyone who saw it to come forward to police to help catch the culprits.

"I just want to see whoever did it brought to justice," he said. "There was no reason to do it. It was unprovoked. I would hate anybody else to suffer this. Someone must have seen it. It was in broad daylight and the taxi rank and bus stop were packed.

"Obviously I can't force anyone to come forward but I hope that they would."

Mr Jones was socialising in the town for the first time in months when he was assaulted, but said he has not been put off visiting Trowbridge.

"They would think they have won then," he added.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0845 408 7000.

its such a shame when people dont feel the need to interveen or even mamkae a statement telling what they had seen.. maybe they are afraid of recriminations :( but like trowboy said..i would imagine there is cctv around that area

hope someone comes forward soon

I agree, we all hope we or someone would intervene but there are several cctv pods in the area for what?
were they actually on?
was someone actually watching?
who pays for all this cctv?
who approved the planning ( not to mention the data protection clause)to put them up?
In broad daylight, smack bang in the centre of the county town and no pictures?
How do we get a local newspaper to ask the right questions?

The WT has a sorry record of toeing the insipid side of the line - sanitising pretty much everything - spineless.

Campaigning journalism it most certainly aint

WT is just another tuppney happenny rag. They are not there to spread truth or report acurately. They are there to brainwash the masses.
Tell the mugs everything is fine when it is far from fine. Keep the chimps happy by throwing them a few peanuts.

Yeah... I know... - The exasperating thing is that I travel a lot and see local newspapers that actually have a backbone and some integrity ..... and they get stuff sorted.

Where was the bobby on the beat in the middle of a major Wiltshire town in the middle of the day? There should be a copper around town at all times to deal with issues that arise and people should know where and how to get hold of him (or her..). Even some of those light blue PCSO or whatever they are please.

Last time I had to call 999 (with 3 other folks doing the same independently) it took 23 minutes for a uniform to show up in St Stephen's Place car park (The old Tesco)..........

As WT is the only paper covering West Wiltshire as a whole, everyone who needs to know what's happening in West Wilts needs to buy it.

Melksham, Westbury and Warminster have very well-liked independent newspapers covering each town (and the Warminster one even likes to think it covers Westbury too), but I am not aware of an Independent newspaper covering Trowbridge properly ... so I think WT still has the monopoly on Trowbridge. Is this correct?

If so, any story about Trowbridge in WT is likely to be well read, so I hope the Police get a good response to the request for information in response to the WT story.

I don't like everything WT prints, but at least it tries to get a balanced story .... which is more than I can say about papers from Bath or Bristol who seem to print anything given to them without checking facts properly.

For your information the man who was assaulted was appraoched directly afterwards by a PCSO and he declined her offer of help

I presume you mean the PCSO arrived immediately after the attack- not the PCSO waited until the attack was over before offering help...hmmm
