Cage fighting gym launches
Cage rage heavyweight champion of the world Ian Freeman opens the new gym with co owners James Denny and Scott Clist
Cage rage heavyweight champion of the world Ian Freeman opens the new gym with co owners James Denny and Scott Clist

A GYM helping to train cage fighters and teach martial arts opened in Trowbridge on Saturday.

The custom-built Revolution Gym, in Court Street, is run by chief instructor Scott Clist, and Jamie Denny, owner of combat sports equipment brand Spitfire.

Mr Clist, 30, is a former British kickboxing champion with more than 19 years experience in martial arts, and is preparing to challenge for a British cage fighting championship.

The gym, which will host martial arts classes daily, boasts more than 100 sq metre of mat space, along with punch-bags, weights, male and female changing rooms, and an on site equipment shop.

A training cage is due to be installed soon.

Cage fighting, or mixed martial arts, is a combat sport mixing elements of boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and jiu-jitsu that has been rising in popularity recently.

Mr Denny, 24, said: "The name Revolution is no accident. We wanted to create somewhere with the best training and the best equipment. There are no egos here, everybody is welcome and you can take as much from it as you want."

As well as running cage fighting, kickboxing and fitness classes, Revolution will be putting on specialist martial arts seminars in the coming months.

These include screen-fighting seminars with Zara Pythian, a 13- time world martial arts champion and film star.

Mr Clist has previously been cast in martial arts film FUROR after attending a similar seminar.

He said: "I was just expecting a five minute fight scene, but ended up being one of the main characters."

He has now been cast in another two films, including one he wrote himself that is set in Trowbridge, entitled CAGED.

i guess as a gym/kick-boxig centre, the pose is more appropriate than, say, photographing them playing with kittens.
