Mayor defends Laverton decision

OUTGOING Westbury mayor Charlie Finbow has left office defending the town council's decision to consider moving from its offices in the Laverton.

At the annual town meeting last week, Cllr Finbow spoke about the future of the Laverton, which has faced financial difficulties.

He said: "During the year the committee made a very tough decision. We could not sustain the losses that this place was making so we had to make two people redundant.

"We now have a team of volunteers who are manning it for the public to use so we are actually getting income from it. Obviously we've cut our expenditure dramatically, hopefully, fingers crossed, it can keep it's head above water.

"We had to look, at the time, at other premises that might possibly be available.

"That's not to say we were going to move but it was just looking to the future that if there comes a point in time we don't need to be on the back foot.

"You've got to be sensible and look around so rumours that the town council were trying to get rid of this place and run for cover into another office somewhere else were not true."
