Van crash outside police station
POLICE in Warminster did not have to travel far when a van crashed into a wall directly outside the police station yesterday afternoon.
The rigid light goods vehicle, operated by Aspray Transport based in the West Midlands, damaged a pillar in Station Road, next to the station, at about 12.45pm.
Acting Inspector Jim Stannard of Warminster and Westbury police said: "The driver of the vehicle stated he had exited the vehicle to get directions having set the handbrake, but for whatever reason the vehicle rolled off and only came to a halt when it hit the front of the surrounding wall of the police station.
"Given the concerns that the vehicle may have a defective brake it was recovered by the operator.
"It was fortunate that no-one was on the footpath at the time as it could have resulted in a serious incident."
The driver was breath tested, but the results were negative.
