Tyremen caught on sticky wicket
 |
| Cooper-Avon opening batsman Darren Perrin turns the ball through the leg side as Burbage and ER wicketkeeper Dave Cope looks on (21778/5) |
COOPER-AVON gave a much better performance, but still slipped to a six
wicket home defeat against Burbage and Easton Royal in Division One of the
Wiltshire League.
Put into bat on a on a very green wicket in overcast conditions,
Cooper-Avon's opening batsmen Darren Perrin and Bailey made slow progress as
the Burbage bowlers made good use of the conditions.
All of Cooper-Avon's top five batsmen made starts but didn't go on to score
the runs needed and the home side were in trouble at 78 for six. J Wiltshire
and C Shearn moved the total along to some respectability but a
disappointing 149 all out always looked 30 runs light. Wiltshire was the
pick of the batsmen, making 47 before he was caught behind off the bowling
of Rosier. Rosier finished with excellent figures of four for 22 from nine
overs and Cook also bowled well, finishing with three for 29 from 12.
For CATs, M Hemmings again bowled well at the start of the Burbage reply,
picking up two wickets in the ninth over to reduce the visitors to to 32 for
two.
After a long stalemate period Wallington struck twice in an over, reducing
Burbage to 76 for four after 26 overs and Cooper-Avon had clawed their way
back into the match. Dave Cope came out to the wicket in confident mood and
started to strike the ball to the boundary and with veteran P Amor at the
other end the game started to go away from the home team.
Cope finished the match with a six in the 39th over and finished on 61 not
out, a match winning innings. Amor supported with 20 not out and Burbage won
comfortably by 6 wickets.
M Hemmings finished with respectable figures of two for 23 and Wallington
finished with two for 20.
This was a disappointing result for Cooper-Avon but a much improved
performance in many ways and with stronger availability they will take
confidence into their next match, away to Calne
