Councillor's phone box campaign

WESTBURY councillor Sue Ezra is starting a campaign to stop phone boxes being axed in west Wiltshire.

BT has announced it is removing six phone boxes without consultation.

They are at Newtown County Junior School and Roundstone Street Post Office in Trowbridge, Bath Road in Bradford on Avon, Oldfield Park in Westbury, Forecourt Parish Hall, Coulston, and the junction of Highbury Park and Boreham Road in Warminster.

If you want to support the campaign contact Cllr Ezra on (01373) 822547.

Leave 'em where they are. people can carry on using 'em as toilets.

I see no worthwhile point in this article as it fails to explain how the campaign is going to save anything at all ... or why.

Just saying that you object to something is not in itself a campaign of any relevance. It will be ignored by BT and will thus be totally ineffective.

Sue Ezra is one of the keenest of the new Westbury Councillors, and I am sure she will make her mark in due course.

Bt is a business at the end of the day.If they don't make any money from phoneboxes then they will get rid of them.
It's the old saying to be honest; 'Use them or lose them'

RUH sums up his entire political career there in one sentence!

I was talking to someone ealier on and they seemed to have great respect for Cllr Hawker.

They said they knew Russell and that he is a complete and utter Count.

As I personally polled over 50% of the vote at the last town council election, something no-one else managed, I put a lot of faith in the brilliant ability of the local electorate to chose and vote in the best candidates.

Most of my campaigns are positive to support and achieve new facilities or infrastructure.

I don't like to get involved in no-hope campaigns as I feel it can be a waste of time and can mislead people.

I think Cllr Ezra has been careful not to say that she will save the telephone boxes, just try to do so.

Bit of a pointless campaign I think. I like the idea of keeping the red ones, merely for retro-style value. I really wouldn't care/notice if the BT phone boxes disappeared

I see so now we have gone from door knobs and brolly's to phone boxes. Ive heard about people like brussell.
Perhaps the fact the he wont make mayor has sent him overboard. Im sure Heather will calm the situation.

More or less everyone has a mobile phone these days, so why should BT have to provide phone boxes which are rarely used for making phone calls, but are quite popular as toilets and attract vandals?

Hohum - yes, BT are a business - but actually IMHO not a very good one - monopolistically overpriced, greedy, lazy and arrogant come to mind. They've just got rid of an imaginative CEO who pulled them out of one mire and the salesmen and unimaginative bean counters are now back in charge.

Phoneboxes are a link out into the "cloud of customers" if BT fitted 'em all with wireless access points and charged sensibly for using them (which they don't ) I'm sure they'd be viable.

They seem to be hellbent on ransoming access rather than facilitating service.......

BT can't see that they've thousands of wireless Internet phone base stations and then some - already scattered across the country.

Such a shame, now the idiots in Trowbridge will only have the glass in bus shelters to smash.
Has nobody at BT thought about them?

LOl Local Electorate knew no better at the time Heather. I would not mind betting your popularity has deminished beyond recovery. Who in their right mind would vote for a gender Confused Brolly Boy with no door knobs. I would think most of the elecorate would turn out in their droves to oppose you. But as mentioned earlier i do think you are the Count of wiltshire.

No, it uniquely describes BT.

I moved from BT to Toucan recently - now it takes me a only a few seconds to get through to a sales or support person rather than a few hours!

Novel? Last time I read Hawkers ramblings on WT he was competing with the entire contents of Encyclopedia Britannica for mass if not content.
