Pensioner hurt in car collision

A PENSIONER was seriously hurt last night after being in collision with a car in Chippenham.

The 75-year-old man suffered head injuries after the incident in New Road outside a block of flats known as Little George Mead at 7.30pm.

He was struck by a white VW Polo as it exited the car park next to the flats and was initially taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath before being transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

Police say the elderly man is now back in the RUH for further treatment.

Police also praised the actions of passers-by who assisted the injured man before the ambulance service arrived at the scene.

They are also appealing for witnesses to the incident to call Pc Williams at the Central Roads Policing Unit on 0845 4087000.
