A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted to hospital after his bike crashed into a lamp post in Chippenham this morning.

The rider, a local man in his 20s, sustained multiple fractures in the incident which happened on Avenue La Fleche at just after 10.30am.

He had been riding his yellow motorcycle towards the town centre from the magistrates court when he lost control on a bend and hit the lamp post.

The Wiltshire Air Ambulance flew him to the Royal United Hospital in Bath where his condition is described as stable.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to call Pc Katus on 0845 4087000.

And I wish these idiots would learn to ride properly. There could have been a kiddy on the pavement.

Not all people that ride motorbikes are idiots, DILLIGAF, that is very one minded, I know alot of them are dangerous but we dont know this person was, I wish the person has a fast recovery and hope that people wont be so judgemental!

One minded indeed. I am a biker and have held a bike license for just under 20 years! You?

I was not for one minute wishing this idiot ill. Just pointing out that he is a prat for losing control of his machine.

I'm with DILLIGAF on this one. Innocent pedestrians could have been hurt or killed by this prat.

How can you lose control and do so much damage to yourself in a town centre unless you were travelling too fast and/or riding like an idiot.

I think you all need to get your facts straight before you start suggesting the rider was acting irresponsibly.

The road that the motorcycle had the accident on is virtually a dual carriage way, whilst the public can walk along the grass verge, footpaths are provided away from the road - so the need to walk up there is minimal.

From this article alone there is no way you can suggested wreck less riding as there simply isn't enough information, you all seem to be jumping to conclusions which currently aren't supported by fact.

ok we don't know how he lost it round the bend. it could happen to anyone of us

I think wilts county council should stop the lampposts jumping out and hurting poor motorcyclists who are riding safely and within the speed limit along the road, and before you have a go at me I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery, and then he can buy a car and be as safe as the rest of us.

How do you have a virtuall dual carriade way?

Wiltshire Resident, Wiltshire says...

It isn't a dual carriage way or even a virtual one. 1) Its one lane down and two lanes up with the right hand lane for traffic turning right onto Pewsham Way. 2) There is no central barrier & 3) it is a 50mph limit.

You can't assume he was riding like a prat, what's to say he didn't slip on a diesel spillage ?

I was following a car yesterday that was leaking a huge amount of fuel on the way into Bristol, and the two bikers following him had to be very careful and let him know when he came to a junction.

Years ago I came off my back as I left me drive - and I wasn't moving faster than walking pace - so it can happen to anyone at anytime.

To some far more often than others it seems. It is almost always the same prat that comes off his/her bike several times.

Any biker worth his salts would see a diesel spill as big as you claim and enough to cause more than a short slip. As for following a car spilling fuel. I don't think so....

what a surprise, another one.

Its funny how no one knows the facts, yet somehow it's a fair bet that this was YET ANOTHER biker speeding and lost control. I certainly back the current crack-down by police on those who assume it's their God-given right to use our roads for their own entertainment. One day, one of these idiots WILL kill someone other than themselves and there will be quite rightly, hell to pay.

No one knows the circumstances of the accident yet so leave the guy alone - It could quite as easily been a prat of a car driver overtaking round the corner which could have caused this accident - There are a lot of car drivers out there who are prats also!!

I agree absolutely - as working at that criteria it'll mean them pulling over the 25mph drivers out for a drive around on a Sunday afternoon for their own entertainment. They are just as dangerous as their observation skills are terrible and they often pull out in front of other road users. It means that people stuck behind them take risks to overtake them once they are in the 60mph limit.
I've seen them cause an accident, and then carry on driving through the carnage like it had nothing to do with them.

The cars V bikes debate will go on forever - but both sides have their bad road skills, and the increasing deaths on our roads reflects that.

For goodness sake GSXRRRSP do you bother to read anything properly? You are the one who gives bikers a hard time with your inane comments that you leave yourself open to others to have a go! As the saying goes -
