Man admits raid on bookies
A 41-year-old man faces the prospect of a jail term after admitting trying to rob a bookmaker's shop.
Ian Thomas, formerly of The Caravan, Longbridge Deverill Farm, near Warminster, but now living in a flat in the town pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before a judge at Swindon crown court on Friday.
The burly crook admitted trying to rob John Clithero of money at Westbury Racing on Wednesday March 19.
Thomas pleaded guilty to one charge of attempted robbery.
Judge Douglas Field adjourned the hearing and released him on conditional bail to Friday June 13 so the probation service can compile a pre-sentence report on him.
It is alleged Thomas went into the bookies on Maristow Street, Westbury and threatened the manager with a baseball bat.
