No rise in wedding charges

THE cost of getting married at the four ceremony rooms in Wiltshire will remain the same across the county this year.

Members of Wiltshire County Council's cabinet has agreed what level of fees people will pay this year when they want to mark key life events with a civil ceremony.

The cost of getting married or having a civil partnership registration at any of the four ceremony rooms in Trowbridge, Salisbury, Devizes and Chippenham will remain at £40.

However, the cabinet agreed an increase in the fees for undertaking a range of civil ceremonies at other approved venues in Wiltshire and for undertaking naming ceremonies and renewal of vows in the ceremony rooms.

The county council was forced to look at the level of fees it charges because the statutory fees that are set nationally for statutory ceremonies, such as marriages, have not increased for a number of years, despite rising costs.

This left the council with the option of either cutting services or increasing the cost of certain elements of this service.

Mark Baker, cabinet member for customer services, said: "We feel it is important that at our four ceremony rooms the cost should be the same which ever one you use and this new fee structure ensures this is the case."
