MP Andrew Murrison has slammed bureaucrats in Brussels for forcing the closure of the driving test centre in Trowbridge.

In a reply to Mr Murrison's Written Parliamentary Question on driving test centre closures, roads minister Jim Fitzpatrick said the move was to "facilitate the introduction of new European requirements for practical tests".

The Minister added: "Regrettably this does mean that some existing test centres have to close.

The answer records 20 test centre closures since 1997, 12 relocated and that another 26 are now earmarked for closure, including Trowbridge.

Mr Murrison said: "Once again we're invited to pay a heavy price to satisfy the insatiable demands of the European Commission.

"We've reached a sorry pass when we can't even control the way we examine learner drivers.

"Ironically, Britain's road traffic accident record compares favourably with our European neighbours and suggests we have no need to take lessons from the clip board bureaucrats of Brussels."

This is one of the many reasons why Brown and Milliband (brace yourselves if he becomes PM) wont give you all the promised vote on the European Constitution. Dirty deals and promises have been made behind the scenes which mean they cannot risk a NO vote. So if you have any relatives in Ireland persuade them to vote NO in their referendum next month, they appear to be our only chance. Meanwhile the closure of Trowbridge Driving Test Centre flys in the face of commonsense and logic.

This beggars the question why do we vote for representatives that have no say anyway.

Andrew slammed the bureaucrats in Brussels. <cough> like this came out of the blue and was slammed so hard only after it was done. A sham?
Tough talk so late in the day its laughable.

'They' know the referendum will not go their way so they must sneak it in any way they can by closing all the satellite control centres, whatever they are, and consolidate them in one EU controllable place. Hence the Unitary Council manEUvre.
Under the guise of cost saving they are rallying the tax sucking EUphile troops against us.

It's not a closure, its consolidation into controllable EUnits.

The endgame is to take away all the independance we have as a county and as a country.
It's sickening to the core.

Time we had a tough PM to stand up to the Eurocrats. The only thing this Green Brownie knows how to do is appease everyone outside the UK and persecute the people of England with more and more taxes and petty legislation!!

Can he win the next election? Not unless suicidal LibLab groupthink UK can find some sensible policies, which is highly unlikely.

Instead of the usual Tory policy of bashing Brussels as its a cheap way to get support, what positive action is being taken to relocate the Trowbridge test centre to another site.
As the intention is to close Trowbridge, all effort should be made to make the case for a centre to be retained in Trowbridge, but then bashing Brussels is always a vote winner.
