Welcome win for Westbury
 |
| Jacques Prinsloo |
WESTBURY recorded a much needed victory at home to Lansdown on Saturday
after reaching the target of 122 with 12 overs to spare.
Lansdown captain Ben Staunton won the toss and decided to bat, but Westbury,
welcomed back bowler Andy Carroll from injury and he made an immediate
impact by taking two early wickets.
James Palmer then made 36 for the away side before being caught by Jacques
Prinsloo from a Johan Fourie delivery, which left Lansdown on 73-4.
Prinsloo and Jason Smith then dismantled the Lansdown bottom order as they
were bowled out for 121 from 35.2 overs.
Prinsloo (3-41), Carroll (2-18), Fourie (2-53) and Smith (1-4) were the pick
of the bowlers for Westbury.
A decent opening partnership of 40 by Joe Breet (28) and Alex Hart (24) put
Westbury in command, but the home side then lost three quick wickets to
leave them on 73 for four.
Jon Dilena steadied the ship with 22 runs from 50 balls, which included two
fours, before being caught and bowled by George Wood (3-21).
Smith and Ibrahim Sayeed then secured the victory for Westbury, who remain
third from bottom with Lansdown second from bottom and Taunton propping up
the Premier Two table.
Westbury captain Ben Whiting said: "We had Andy Carroll back opening the
bowling for us this week and he did exceptionally well.
"Johan Fourie was the other opening bowler and he did well too.
"We changed the attack around later in the game with Jacques Prinsloo coming
in and Jason Smith bowling spin.
"In the field we were very good with Jacques and Alex Hart both taking two
great catches each.
"Alex and Joe Breet then got us off to a flyer with the bat and Jon Dilena
came in at five and batted really well too.
"It was a good overall team performance and it was what we needed after our
run of bad form."
Westbury name an unchanged side for tomorrow's second match in as many weeks
against Lansdown at Combe Park.
Whiting added: "I'm hoping that another win this weekend will be enough to
see us well clear of the bottom two teams."
