Biker faces two-month hospital stay
A MOTORCYCLIST who was seriously injured in a crash this morning could have to spend two months in hospital, his mother has said.
Dad-of-one Rodney Vyner, 28, of Oakfields in Staverton, was riding his Honda 125R along Canal Road when he was involved in a collision with a Ford Transit van.
The impact was so hard that he landed more than 30ft away from the scene of the crash and his bike was completely destroyed.
His mother Marian Tilley-Vyner said: "He is in surgery and it's going to be a long job.
"He has badly broken his arm and leg and his hip smashed into his pelvis and has broken that too.
"They have said he is looking at spending two months in hospital."
Mr Vyner had been driving from his home to his work in Wellow, Somerset, where he does grounds maintenance.

From seeing the wreckage, thank god he didn't break his neck, quite a few of us that work not far from the crash were worried he wouldn't make it, so comforting to hear he will be on the mend especially for his child. Good Luck.

I have seen poeple killed in far less serious collisions. Lucky doesn't come close.

I wouldn't have thought a Honda125 would go fast enough to do that much damage. They are only silly little pop-pop hair dryers.

Anyway, even if the bike was doing 30 and the van was doing 30, thats a closing speed of 60mph in anycase. What if either of them was speeding ???

This shows yet again that a motorcyclist, however careful he or she is, is very vulnerable. Statistically they have 12 times the chance of being killed or injured in travelling 100 miles than a car driver. f course, there's a huge difference in risk betwen some 17 year old idiot doing wheelies in the High Street and a middle-aged experienced rider on his big bike.
This shows yet again that a motorcyclist, however careful he or she is, is very vulnerable. Statistically they have 12 times the chance of being killed or injured in travelling 100 miles than a car driver. f course, there's a huge difference in risk betwen some 17 year old idiot doing wheelies in the High Street and a middle-aged experienced rider on his big bike.

My 125 will do 80mph, if that was a little Honda Race-Rep 125, they're good for 86mph ;-), so it's more than plenty to kill yourself on.
I knew a chap that was killed at 30 - it's not the coming off that damages people, it's the landing!
